Because, so long as it is between consenting adults and is not having an unreasonably averse effect on anyone else, there is technically nothing wrong with it. Intelligent people like me recognize this and support the free choice to have sex before marriage.

First, it is not an exchange. The people in question are both doing it because they enjoy it, not for money.

Second, there is nothing wrong with prostitution either. Again, it is an act between consenting adults and does not have an unreasonable averse effect on anyone else.

For some people, it is okay, and for some it isn't. I think this is really a personal choice that may have a lot to do with religious beliefs. Our moral compass is often set by cultural standards and expectations - while something may be reprehensible in one culture, it isn't in another. In the only culture I have a lot of experience with - the American culture - pre-marital sex is not just accepted, but almost expected of people. The general consensus in America seems to be that it is a normal, if not essential life experience, and a natural, healthy way of expressing your feelings for someone that you are close to. Prostitution is not a natural, healthy way of expressing feelings. Prostitution is the exchange of sex for money, which generally takes place between strangers with no feeling for each other at all.

If this is something you are considering personally, I think you need to look at four factors - What is morally acceptable and expected in your culture? What do your religious beliefs (if any) tell you? Would it be something that you would regret? Do you really love the person?

As a woman who has chosen to have pre-marital sex, I'd say that it's been a very healthy and natural part of my development as an adult. I don't feel that this makes me at all comparable with a prostitute, or that it devalues me as a person at all.

If you want to understand why people think it's okay to have premarital sex, you may need to consider their cultural and religious background, and understand that they may have been instilled with a different value set than yours. I love my boyfriend very much, and can't think of any reason that it would be immoral for me to express that physically.

To take your reasoning to it's full extent, what makes a wife different from a prostitute? You aren't supporting a girlfriend you're having sex with but you are supporting a wife and a prostitute you're having sex with.

Well , lets see. Prostitutes are treated VERY VERY badly . Yes they get payed for sex. But they also get the **** beat out of them and get robbed. Hence why they have pimps. They pay the pimp to protect them from getting their behind whipped.
A Girlfriend you are supposed to respect.Not beat up , not cheat on. You are with them because their is something that you like about them maybe more so than other peeps.

I have no prob with sex before marriage but you should still do it with someone who RESPECTS you.

Um... do you really have to ask? Sex b4 marriage is ok because it IS ok. And the diff between a gf and a hooker is that the gf does not stand on a corner, take money for the sex, then 15 mionutes later is back out ont he same cornet for hte next customer. Sort of different to have recreational normal sex with a sig other, at least to most of us i think.

Not everyone think's that is it ok.And the difference between a prostitute and a girlfiend is that a prostitute get's paid to have sex it is her job.A girlfriend does not get paid to have sex and hopefully she is having sex because she loves that person.

Because today, everyone is doing it ... its odd how everyone feels that they have to do what everyone else is doing. Hopefully, if they are doing it with the girlfriend, there is some sort of love whereas with the prostitute there isn't.

Well yes, if the marriage is sexless by mutual agreement and not just because one person decided they weren't interested any more. If that happens, the other person is likely having sex outside of the marriage.

Some people will do it because society has accepted this path; whereas in the olden day, it would be a disgrace to them and their families.
