180 days (whether consecutive or not) out of a 365 day period.
Should be able to find more info here, might have to search a bit.

Hello from Toronto: Ok, here is the scoop. You are allowed to leave Canada for up to 6 months. Not one day longer than 6 months. If you do leave longer than 6 months, then your free health care starts taken away from you. Remember one day longer than 6 months and a lot of problems. Call the Canadian embassy and find out more information.
I went away to Europe last year and when I found out that my health care will be taken away if I stay longer than 6 months. I came running back home after a 4 month stay in Europe.
Good to be back home in Canada!
Good Luck

Three months straight is my guess. I have a fiance who lives overseas and he comes for 3 months straight then goes home. He lives in the UK, I don't know if Canada has longer tourist visas or not, but I wouldn't think so.

180 consecutive days per year. you will have a visitor status.
if you stay just one more day you become an illegal immigrant
and you could be deported.

I never knew they still let us in.
Don't they think all the terrorists come from Canada?
