From my experience, it depends on the severity of the illness or pain. Usually pain med is called in within four hours. Why the four hours? Your doctor should have given you a pain pill at the time of seeing him or her. Those pills usually last about four hours. If it is for another reason, it may be called in when he is through with his patients that day.

Do you think that the Dr or his nurse are just sitting around waiting for you to call for an Rx?
The Dr and nurse are busy seeing those patients who made appointments to be seen and when they are done with patients they have to pull the charts of all of the patients who have called in for the same thing so that notations can be made that they did infact call the Pharmacy of those patients calling in as you have.
The calls are made in the order inwhich they were received and unless you were the first patient of the day to call or perhaps the only one to call,it could take some time.
