Ive worked with dogs for 14 years and have only heard people on Yahoo answers refer to a dog called a lurcher. Is this some kind of inside joke or something? A breed description would be appreciated, or a link. Thanks for any info.

no a lurcher is Not a joke. . it has never had strict breeding lines. lurchers are greyhound crosses used 4 various purposes. i dont know much about them but i have seen pics and read some about them. they are skinny, graceful, scruffy-haired looking dogs usually, but the appearance can differ.

GSP - "The race is quite different from true greyhound racing in that they run in an open field and chase a raccoon until the raccoon is caught (and killed) by the Lurchers."

More crap from the AR oriented GH rescue groups, what a bunch of idiots.

How is that different from 'true' Gh racing? 'TRUE' GH racing is hunting for HARE! Different prey, yes, otherwise no different. It is called HUNTING!!!

"The illegality occurs when money is exchanged between individuals who are betting on their dog to win. The organized crime division of the Michigan State Police have tried to investigate this underground "ring", but it has been very difficult to obtain valuable evidence. "

Gee, could it be because people who are out coursing/hunting with their Hounds do not BET??? Pretty hard to get evidence when no one is doing it. ORGANIZED CRIME! LMFAO!!!

What a bunch of idiots!!!

They are NOT usually crossed with a Coonhound. They are most often crossed with a terrier, collie, or Border Collie. They are mostly in Britain.
