Much of West Yorkshire is urban and low lying (Leeds, Bradford, Wakefield, Huddersfield etc) and on the occasion it does snow it tends to be no more than a few inches and not long lasting - a day or two usually. Other parts of West Yorkshire, mainly at the edge of the county running in an arc from Ilkley in the north to Holmfirth in the south, are higher and attract more snow. Even so, the highest point is the oddly named Soilder's Lump which is only just above 500 metres and whilst there is certainly more snow on the higher ground it's unlikely to last any length of time - perhaps a week.

If you're wanting snow then head north into the Yorkshire Dales (currently no snow just rain and wind) or for a better chance keep going north to Cumbria and the Lake District (currently snow on the higher fells but wind and rain lower down). Scotland, and the Highlands in particular, give the best chance of snow (currently snow at all levels, melting at lower levels).

In England, January and February are the most likely times for snow, on the higher ground Dec to March. In Scotland Jan to March at lower levels and Nov to April at high levels.

Current weather in West Yorkshire: wet with strong winds, cool.

Possible at the moment. They've had snow in Sheffield (south yorkshire) on Sunday night. Since global warming we have seen a dramatic decrease in the amount of snow. When I was younger snow was guaranteed every year; not anymore. We're lucky if we see 2 inches of snow within the winter months now. Snow is forecast for this week though throughout the Midlands. Scotland always has snow every winter.

You have chosen a beautiful area of the country to visit. I am in West Yorkshire and whilst we haven't had any snow yet, and after having a very mild, but very windy winter so far, we have been warned that it is going to get very cold this coming week and that we could see some snow...but nothing is guaranteed!

It all depends when you are coming.
In Yorkshire in general (and it's a huge region) there's been snow as late as March however it can snow one place and be clear 10 miles away. If you're going to stay in one of the main towns and cities you'll be fine as it won't lay even if it does stay and if it does it won't stay too long. If your going out to stay in more rural areas in the county that's a whole other story!
