yes you can, you can use a cookie sheet. if you want toast cut the loaves in slices and spread them out. if you use the broiler u will need to turn over the slices so they become crisp on the other side. watch very closley because you can burn foods this way.if you use the oven in bake mode u wont need to worry about this as much. spreading butter over the slices will make them brown really nicely

Yes, you can toast bread in the oven. If you're doing a whole loaf, you may want to heat it through on the middle rack a little bit (around 300 degrees F), then move to the top rack and start broiling at a higher heat to turn it brown. Keep an eye on the bread, especially when you start broiling...it can brown fast. I've burnt bread this way a few times!

If you want to toast in the oven or boiler you can, but make sure you don't put nothing on the toast unless you put them on a cookie sheet. WHEn you use a cookie sheet you can put almost anything on your bread. But if your just making toasted bread why not just put teh bread on the grill of the oven or broil and when toasted on one side turn over and you hvae nice grill marks

Of course! This is the ONLY way I toast - why buy a toaster?
Put the rack to the top-most level, turn on the top element, and pop in the bread. I just use my bare hands (practice). You can also put pieces on a cookie sheet, since you're only toasting one side. Watch carefully, then flip the toast.

you have to put the rack right on the top and use the broiler (lay the bread flat and flip it half way through), leave the door open to watch it and be careful not to leave it too long because it can catch fire surprisingly quickly (ah....home ec class...). They ran an add on tv once that says using an oven to cook toast every mrning for a year will cost like $150 more in electricity.

I make my toast in the oven all the time, 'cause I like it crunchy. It comes out great.
I put it in right on the rack, and as soon as I smell the bread, it's ready to turn over for the other side. Takes only a few seconds on the second side. YUMMY, and the butter or margarine melts just right!
DON'T butter it until you take it out or it will be very drippy and soggy, and it won't brown.
It's not hard wiping the crumbs out, and SO worth it!

Not stupid at all. Just cut the loaves however you like and lay them directly on the oven rack closest to the broiler and watch them closely as they will toast quickly. However they will only be toasted on one side.
You can turn them over and repeat the process.
Good toasting!

An oven would take so long, that it would be rock hard.
A broiler works better, but very fast--you have to watch carefully to avoid burning. You also have to do each side separately.
(You could do 9 slices or more at a time)
If I were you, I'd scrounge up every toaster I could from friends & family--it would be easier in the long run!
Use the pan IN the broiler. Cover with foil if it is funky.

Ummmm, my favorite...oven toast. Slather on the butter and broil. Watch carefully, it can burn before you know it. I usually turn it over to brown the other side because I like my crisper, but you don't have to, your preference.
You can grill it in a skillet the same way.
