If it's the first time you're being married, yes. If not, just produce your decree absolute of divorce. In any case, it's perfectly obvious that a birth certificate is NOT proof of who you are, as anyone can order anyone else's. If you ask the registrar, you may find producing your driving licence/passport may be acceptable.
If you do need your birth certificate, IF you're in the UK (and were born in England or Wales) then you can find and order it online at www.findmypast.com. They used to be www.1837online.co.uk but for some reason they decided they wanted a stupid name instead.

I'm from the UK and got married last year. I don't think we had to show our birth certificates but we had to show our passports and you can't have a valid passport without having had your birth certificate. Anyway, whats the prob? You can always apply to get a new birth cert if yours is missing.

Hi yes as it is a form of proof who you are. I know when we went to see the registrar he asked for a birth certificate and another form of ID. You can always get a birth certificate just go to the department who deals with all the birth and death certificates and explain that you havent got one and they should sent it to you. My fiancee lost his and this is what he had to do but you do need to pay for it.

You need to contact your local circut court office. I see alot of people are saying yes, I thought the same until I called. In my state you need proof of your ID & proof of your social security number. I was told most people use their birth certificate, however a valid state ID & a social secuirty card will work fine.

No - I got married in England last year and I needed to provide ID but no birth certificate.
Which is lucky because I've lost mine! Whoops.

Usually it only takes a driver's license or a state id. Depends on the county and state that you live in.
