You will have to remove it from its case, place it in a bin, and have it scanned through the x-ray machine. Then, from there, you should be good to go. The airline has no right to open any of your belongings, including you laptop. Just make sure it fits under you seat or in the overhead compartment bin!

They dont do anything to laptops OR gaming systems. You could be asked to turn it on, but thats about it unless they feel they saw something on the x-ray, same thing with gaming systems. Id be curious to know how they "opened" an Xbox and why. TSA wouldnt have damaged the gaming system, they dont do anything to them other than send it through the x-ray, rarely have I ever seen them go beyond that other than swabbing it down for explosives, they dont hardly handle many items anymore unless the person is a full search or selectee. If that was the case, agents would have only xray'd it, swabbed it for explosive traces and thats it.
If his Xbox is malfunctioning, the only thing that would make it do that is if he mishandled his bag or if he put it in an over head bin and someone put a heavy bag on top of his. And electronics is one thing you carry on at your own risk, no one would cover loss for that, same thing for laptops.

Nothing. All you have to do is take it out of briefcase/backpack and put it by itself so it can be xrayed when you're going through security.
After that, you're home free. Once plane takes off you can turn on your computer and work/play games, etc. But they don't screw around with your laptop other than xray it.

They put it in a diff. box when you go thru security. they might ask you to turn it on. but that's it. i bring mine all the time and they actually never have asked me to turn it on. i like to have mine on standby just in case they do ask.
