An older dog, like around the age of 5 might be a better investment. With older dogs, you know exactly what their temperament is and it's not going to change. They're also mellowed out and won't play too rough. They also don't go through the horrible teething stage at 5 or 6 months. They don't have to be taught what their teeth can and can't touch either - they already know. I'd say, if your daughter is 1 - 3 years old, a beagle may be a good choice. If she's 4 - 6 years old, a pit bull. I'm not talking just any pit bull either. I'm talking a 5 year old, well trained, well socialized, neutered/spayed pit bull bought from a responsible person. If she's 7 - 10 years, a boxer would be a good choice. Older than 10, anything. And also, nothing's sweeter than a mutt bought from the pound. =)

Um well my advice is to look through the pound, that's where my dogs came from
This is taking a chance, because you never know how big they can get..but luckily we got 2 beagles and they haven't gotten that big
The Pound Owner's advice can be 50/50, but typically they are somewhat correct
If you are really that concerned, and you have some money to spend, then you can go with a pure-bread, which you can get at a pet store, and the workers there are more reliable
All in All, if you do end up getting an unpredictable pup, train it as a puppy and if he does grow to be big, he will have learned to respect your authority
Don't be afraid to punish them if felt needed, it will be worth a few "poppings" if it means your daughter be safe

you should take your daughter to the shelter to adopt an animal that needs a good home. The people there will also be able to give you insight on whatever dog you choose. There also may already be a young dog that is finished growing that would be perfect for your daughter.

whatever you do, don't get your puppy at the pet store. pet store puppies come from horrible Puppy Mills. If you don't already know about the best kept secret, Puppy mills are where dogs are bred over and over in filthy condition with very little care and absolutely no love ..the mom's giving birth to those pet store puppies are living in total hell. please whatever you do, don't support those horrible people. when people stop buying from pet stores, the puppy mills will be put out of business, but everytime someone buys from a puppy shop, that creates a demand for that breed and of course the puppy mill creeps are more than willing to supply that demand...so please, please, don't buy from a pet shop. the puppies there can also be very unhealthy due to the fact that their moms aren't cared for as they should be. look up puppy mills on line and you'll see what i'm talking about.

Pomeranian. I just got one two weeks ago and he is great with kids; very friendly. The only thing about them is they like alot of attention. If you show him he is loved then he won't bark much. Mine is about 6 pounds and doesn't bite at all. He is not tall at all and all black very shiny coat. (Cute for decoration lol) These puppies are very playful so have fun. I highly recommend this dog. Good luck puppy hunting.

It all depends on what kind of dog you like?

If you want something small I would say a miniture Pomeranian. or maybe a Chihuahua, beagle, shitsu.

When I was growing up I had a Pomeranian and I loved him he was my best friend. He went ever were I went except to school. He would sleep on my bed with me at night he wanted to go with me when the family would go someplace.

Good luck with finding the right dog for your family.

miniature schnauzers or poodles and small terriers or terrier mixes are all good little dogs that won't get too big. I have a miniature poodle and he doesn't even wiegh in at 15lbs. sounds like the perfect size for a small child.

Take her to the pound and save a Mutt. The dog will pick her and you'll be happy with the results.
