I sold my car when I was out of town. On my way back I've lost the plates. In Virginia you have to turn in plates after sale before dropping insurance. What am I suppose to do??

Just notify the DMV that the tags were lost. No biggie. They'll take a few extra $$$ from you and de-register the car. Then you take the receipt to your insurance company and cancel the policy.
