I am in Australia and 3 days ago I received a letter which was marked "Airmail" and was posted in New York City on 6th December.

Either the US Mail or the Australian Post cannot read the letters AIRMAIL and somehow this letter took 6 weeks to come to me.

Perhaps it needed to visit all 50 states in the USA and also the other 7 states or territories in Australia before coming to me in Queensland. In which case it has seen so much!

Airmail to Oz usually takes a week. Parcels can take 10 days max. If you didnt put correct postage on then I suppose it could have gone sea mail and maybe taken 6 weeks. I send mail to Oz regularly and so far have never had a problem.

I send parcels to Australia regularly and it usually takes 2 weeks for them to receive it. I have never experienced it taking up to 6 weeks.

Yeah, it depends how big the parcel you posted, what country you posted to from?
if you have insurance on the parcel, you could contact Australia post and find out why it took so long or where it was last seen.

It depends greatly on what way it was sent...some mail goes direct overnight on planes....some goes by ship/plane......some goes to other countries and is re-routed there....dont' forget it is 1000's of miles away.....if you want it there quicker you have to pay for it....lived there for 22 years........
