According to the Bible, God seems to change his mind about the rules of what constitutes sin. There are some pretty strange ones in the Old Testament.
Sin is like art, you know it when you see it. But according to Jesus, you should only look within yourself for sin...not judge others by some ¨sin standard

Anything not in harmony with, hence contrary to, God’s personality, standards, ways, and will; anything marring one’s relationship with God. It may be in word (Job 2:10; Ps 39:1), in deed (doing wrong acts [Le 20:20; 2Co 12:21] or failing to do what should be done [Nu 9:13; Jas 4:17]), or in mind or heart attitude (Pr 21:4; compare also Ro 3:9-18; 2Pe 2:12-15). Lack of faith in God is a major sin, showing, as it does, distrust of him or lack of confidence in his ability to perform. (Heb 3:12, 13, 18, 19) A consideration of the use of the original-language terms and examples associated with them illustrates this.
The common Hebrew term translated “sin” is chat·ta’th′; in Greek the usual word is ha·mar·ti′a. In both languages the verb forms (Heb., cha·ta’′; Gr., ha·mar·ta′no) mean “miss,” in the sense of missing or not reaching a goal, way, mark, or right point.

Doing wrong. The word comes from Greek archery when some one would shoot an arrow at a target and they totally missed it a certain person would shout out sin. It basically meens totally missing the right thing and because the right thing is doing as god commands then yes if your not doing what pleases god then you are missing your target and "sining"

For all have sinned AND fall short of the glory of God.
Glorify God in ALL that you do.
Man was Created to glorify God.
Sin is not glorifying God in everyaspect of or lives. It is not a moral issue. Morals are involved but not the core of the problem.
God wants us to be totally in love with him and to DESIRE Him and to have a realationship with Him. When we seek to do this, we will have the full measure of His joy.
When we REJECT what he has to offer and desire anything else it is sin.
That's why moralist's don't understand this. They think people are essentially "good" and they basically do good. But even if you take all your money and build a hospital for the poor, if it is not done to glorify God, it is sin.
ALL our righteousness is as filthy rags. No one does good, no, not one.

Sin is an act that violates God's Word. For example, Exodus 20 states that we should not commit adultry, steal, lie (bear false witness) or kill. This is a guidline as to what not to do.

Not sinning is being truly obedient to God.
Since we can never truly be obedient, always putting our desires before God's, even if they are the same we must justify them ourselves. As the prophet has written:
Isaiah 64:6
But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.

It's a sin to get divorced AT ALL> jesus said so himself.
and he said nothing at all about a loophole for adultery or physical abuse either....
What does it matter anyway when if you sin or not, whether you kill children, or steal a "penny", all that matters is if you believe in Jesus or not, right?
So what do sins matter at all? Those who are going to heaven go to heaven and those who don't believe go to hell--according to many Christians.
