Well, the answers listed are partially correct. You first have to be in the military to go for Special Forces like Navy SEALs or Marine Corps Force Recon. You DO NOT have be in the Navy to become a SEAL. Also, you can go to the Army recruiter to sign up to be a candidate for Army Special Forces, which basically means you are signing up to be a paratrooper. You'll have the opportunity to try out for the Green Berets when you are there.

NOPE! For SEALS you need to be an E-6 to even be considered. They quarterly marks of nothing less than 3.6 and a TON of 3.8 and 4.0.
Unless you are a wizard it will take around 6 years to become an E-6 based upon time in grade. Then you should pass the promotion tests in the first quadrant with a rate that transfers to what the SEALS want.
They just do NOT have the time or desire to teach; discipline, maturity leadership or knowledge in rate. The ability to improvise under PRESSURE without being a "Cowboy" is also desired while staying focused upon the TEAM and MISSION.
Now for the physical. Think of the MOST demanding thing that you have EVER done and multiply it by TEN. Then ask yourself if you could do "IT" with maybe 5 hours TOTAL sleep over a WEEK.
Get dumped in the middle of no where with some water and a couple of cranola bars and have maybe have 20 hours to get to a specified LZ that may be 10-15 miles away. The fun part is the instructors get to jump out of the bushes and beat the crap out of you in the process; maybe hang you in a tree. Then you go to "Jump School" and will be DROWNED a couple of times to see how you handle the pressure without fouling the water.
IF you make it without going NUTS or dropping out then you will get to do the "foreing stuff" If you have command of an applicable foreign (gentle correction) language that is a plus.
Now here is the good part, you CAN NOT tell sea stories of ANY KIND to ANYONE for perhaps 30 YEARS. If you want to impress a girlfriend etc with stories you will receive INSTRUCTION from your TEAM and it WILL BE HARSH!
The SEAL BADGE is worn unobtrusively with no special beret or BS. You can tell a SEAL because they walk TALLER and STRAIGHTER than almost any other military man; there is a certain calm and confidence that puts an aura around them!
This actually happened in California several years ago. A senior citizen cut off someone on the freeway and they followed him off of the freeway. The senior citizen got out of his car and found himself confronted by FIVE "bangers". The senior citizen apologized for his mistake and started to walk away when he got jumped from behind. The aftermath was five "bangers" in the parking lot that were completely disabled. He called 911 and did first-aid. The police showed up, loaded the "bangers" in ambulances and the senior citizen went about his shopping. He had retired from the Navy as a SEAL.
Being SELECTED as a SEAL is NOT 8 and OUT, but a CAREER so really think about what you are thinking about!
***********DISCLAIMER***********
I am NOT a SEAL, NEVER been a SEAL and would NEVER disrespect those that ARE (once a SEAL ALWAYS a SEAL) by even suggesting that I was even on the fringes of that ELITE GROUP.
Just done my homework and have friends that have served in RECON, SNIPERS and RANGERS. I SALUTE them ALL!
It is NOT the MOVIES, son.

You have to request service in the Special Forces. Then ,if accepted, you will be sent to either Fort Bragg and trained for the Rangers and Green Berets and either to NAS Dam Neck Va. or NAS Coronado Ca for training for the Seals. If you pass and the odds are against it you are assigned to a team.
Good Luck

What is "foreing" stuff. Both the SEALs and the army Special Forces have mental as well as physical qualifications. If your question, the use of English and spelling are any indication, you may not make it.
Both units require completion of the Army Airborne course. You have to qualify as a paratrooper. It ain't an easy path to take.

Not so true. The Navy has a SEAL Challenge Contract in which you can be guaranteed the right to train at BUD/S (Basic Underwater Demolition SEAL School). IF you make it through the rigorous training, your in the SEALs. Hope this helps.

Not sure about the green berets, but you can have it put in your contract that you get to apply for the SEALs. Doesn't in any way mean that you will pass, but you'll get a chance to try out. If you don't get it in your contract, you can still apply once you get to boot camp as long as you aren't in a low manned or highly technical rate.

To join any of the Special Forces you need to 1st join the military, -Army for green berets or Navy for SEALs- Then you need to Apply for the privilege of being a member of the special forces, and meet the requirements of the special forces. then if your picked you go to special training for the Special Forces (SEAL training is infamously hard) IF you make it through training you get the Privilege of being a member of a very exclusive group. a VERY large percentage of people who make it as far as the training do NOT make it all the way through.

You can ask to join and if you qualify, you will go to training after basic training. However, since you asked another question with regard to only serving to get some college money,I don't think you would make it past the first day in the Special Forces.Stay home and thank the people who are protecting you,we'll all be better off.

you have to 1st be in the army or navy for a certain period of time,be a certain rank and age.the green berets dont take applications from anyone who is not 21 or at least a sergeant, this is becouse they only want more mature and experianced men (women are NOT allowed in special forces, sorry demi moore) who have a solid history.you then have to pass a qualication test like seal hell week or the army 3 day test for sf.only then does actual training begin.

You have to try out for both of these. First you have to be mentally and physically able to do it. They do not let just anybody try out. There is a show on the discovery channel that shows the seals try outs watch it it does not look like fun!
