i have a three year old son that is potty trained when it comes to peeing in the toilet but when it comes to pooping, for some odd reason, he goes in the floor either in his room or in front of the toilet. he's when in the toilet before so i don't think he's scared of doing it there. and he knows he's not supposed to do it because when he does, he tries to sneak and get toilet paper to clean it up so he doesn't get into trouble. i have tried everything i know of. i haven't found anyone else that has had this problem. if anyone can think of anything please please please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!

he doesn't like using a potty seat because it sits so low on the floor so we use it as a stool for him to reach the toilet. i also have a smaller toilet seat with spongebob on it (whom he loves) that goes on top of the regular toilet and it still does no good.

Let him clean it up. My friends' kid would pee in the toilet but poop in a little box!
Let him clean it up and keep on showing him where he's supposed to go. He'll figure it out. I promise, he won't grow up to be 30 years old and pooping in the floor lol.

Does he stand to pee? If so, he may have an aversion to the seat. There are a number of smaller seats you can add on top that you can't fall through--some with Barney and such characters and some that are plain. See if that is the problem and if so get a seat and secure it--or show him how to put it on.
My little one would stand to pee in the big potty but sit on the little potty for his 'business'. We got a seat by Kids II, Inc and put it on a chair first so he could see he would not fall through into the water and then on the potty.
Consider it a blessing that he tries to clean up--and praise him for that!

I also have a 3 year old and understand some of the complications of potty training. Maybe he is not getting the restroom fast enough? Or maybe he doesn't want to stop playing long enough to go poop. Possible try asking him every hour or so. I know sometimes I bribe my daughter with candy right before we go out on long drives to go potty when she says she doesn't need to go. Maybe try a reward system if he can go poop in the potty 2 times or 3 times in a row. Good luck.

I hate being a me to. Your first two answers put forward everything that I want to say. Your son seem to feel the the climb is too high for the toilet.

A potty chair is the answer, MAKE SURE THAT HE HAS TO CLEAN IT- DON'T CLEAN IT FOR HIM. And make sure that he wash the bowl every night before he go to bed and every morning if he used it at night.

Don't punish if a mishap occur while he is trying to do things. If your son is as lazy as I am he will quickly adapt and you will be very happy.

My daughter, who is 4 now, used to poop on the floor too! She outgrew it and everything is fine now! They know they aren't suppose to go in their underwear, but they might not just have the pooping in the toilet down yet! He will be fine! Keep having him clean it or encourage him with prizes if he poops in the toilet. My daughter pooped on the floor at my work if that makes you feel any better. He will be just fine!

My oldest daugther would do that when we were still potty training her. She would actually hide in the kitchen pantry and poop there!lol, It made me furious. She eventually just stopped on her own, but I just made sure to be really stern with her and I also made her help me clean up the mess, this was her biggest deterrent to making the messes. Hang in there, you'll survive. Also just think, It can't last forever!!!
