Women have a biological timeclock - men don't. It makes sense that women who want to get married and have children will begin getting anxious at age 30, because it becomes increasingly difficult to give birth to your first child after age 35, and especially after age 40.

M wife and I met shortly before her 30th birthday, got engaged the next year, and got married when she was 31; we had our son when she was 34, and our daughter when she was 36. We have a complete family now, but we moved things along at a pretty good pace and, unlike some of her friends, my wife had no problem getting pregnant.

Men can have children at any age - Charlie Chaplin was 80. So I think it's really biology that explains a fairly rational response.

I don't think men do this, but it seems the women I know that do this do so because they think they've just lowered their "market value" by turning 30. Like less men will want them. Men are oblivious to this mindset but women do it to men too. Know a man over 40 who's never been married? Suddenly he's perceived as "un-marriable." It's quiet the catch, get married at 20 and you're "too young" get married at 30 and it's "what took you so long?" I really don't think anybody worries about this, they just worry that everyone esle worries about it!

Because that means that soon they won't be able to have children. Usually that their clock is ticking and they need to hurry up and start making some babies. Not only that but some women feel like if by that age they dont have anything they think they are gonna be single forever. Also because by that age a lot of women are either married w/ children or have a serious relationship.

because they're afraid that all of the "good" men are already taken and they are running out of time. it's a fear of spending the rest of their lives alone. and men don't worry about this because they have the illusion in their heads that all women love older men...

We feel our biological clock slowing down... and we see all kinds of older men with younger women... you know.

Listen to me, I sound like I'm talking from experience.

societal pressures.
people are living longer these days, and with college and the need for advanced degrees people are starting families later than in the past.

I think it's a fear of being alone...

Society.
People always want you to settle down and be "in the norms".
I say " screw them" I'll make such important decisions when I'm done and ready.
