As I Look out into this world today, I see my fellow man at ods-Is he here in a practical way, or just for Gods, It hurts to see this life I love, filled with so much push & Shove-Human beings always stating "I'm Right", not seeing their own fright-for to be correct my friend, is to realize that your life will end- for better or worse there is just one way, that is to give the best while you enjoy the stay. Can't you see that your accepting religion, is only a way to find recognition-how many christians will die today-in hope of a life after "A BETTER WAY"? You call it HEAVEN as I have often heard-the sheep of God all because "THEY FEARED!", Well I am not afraid to venture here, that Heaven on Earth is also near-but it wont happen until we as FREE-THINKING men-look to one another and call out FRIEND! Its your religion that I see stands in the way-adding a barrier to continue as we become the PREY!-For what is it 4 a man to lose his own soul-Gain the world for THE FUTURE this my goal!

Actually, religion has made significant strides. First, architecture. During the Middle Ages, vast, high-ceilinged Gothic cathedrals were built, with stained glass windows. The Byzantine church built the church Hagia Sophia. The Muslims built Alhambra palace, with beautiful arabesque designs that we can all enjoy even today.
Second, providing services to the poor. Catholic "saints" (who were against the Catholic church) have not only built churches, but have also built hospitals and schools for people to get healed and educated. Furthermore, missionary work by Christians isn't all about the Bible. Missionaries have also (and still do, even today) gone to poor, remote countries to build schools and hospitals for children, provide food and housing for them, and to provide medicines and vaccines for them. Even now, Christian missionaries play an important role in Africa.
Furthermore, religion has been used as a reason for the abolition of slavery. William Wilberforce, a renowned English abolitionist, was also a Christian, and he worked tirelessly and indefatigably worked to free black slaves in Great Britain. In the early 1800s, Britain abolished slavery. Though the slave rebellion in Haiti played a big role, Wilberforce's efforts played a part in the emancipation of slaves in Britain.
There are many examples in which religion (especially Christianity, not Catholicism, though) has worked as a benefit to the world. What I think is that religion is not always the problem; I believe it's actually the level of intolerance and hatred that people tend to couple religion with. For example, no where does the Bible support war to spread religion; yet, Catholicism's history is quite a bloody one. They incorrectly used the Bible to justify such atrocities as the Albigensian Crusades and the massacre of Jews and Muslims. Even when a religion is a religion of peace (if it really is one of peace), people will use it to support or to foster a hatred of other people of other religions, simply because they feel better than the others.
I think many of us have to learn to disagree lovingly. It is, after all, the only way that many religious people could have loved their neighbors so much as to help them. It's okay to debate and to think that the other person is wrong because of your religion, but if the vital ingredient, genuine love of each other despite the fact that we think or know the other is wrong, then the devotion to religion will amount only to hatred for others, and THAT'S really when religion doesn't solve problems.

Truth is, no matter what you believe, we will be dead for a whole lot longer than we are alive. And no matter what you believe it is impossible to know what happens when we die. There isnt anything wrong with hoping for something better... how many athiests or non believers die every day because this life is hard and so messed up that its almost impossible to believe it will get better? No one commits suicide believing life will get better, or there is anything to look forward to in this world.

There are some religions or people within those religions that are violent for the cause, but not the majority or everyone would be far worse off. If 80% of the worlds population is religious, dont you think the 20% who are not would stand a chance if religion always equals violence? However, it seems the majority of the non religious, treat all the religious as though they are out to "get them" and refrain extending their hand in friendship. I've has this happen to me at work before, I mentioned (for what reason I dont remember) that I am a Christian, my co worker huffed and said "Oh well I guess you hate me then huh?" I said "No, why would I hate you?" he says "Well because YOU think I'm a sinner" I said "Yeah? And I think I'm a sinner too... so what?" he says "Well then you're a hypocrite!" I laughed "How does that make me a hypocrite?" he says "Because you believe one thing and do the opposite... just like you ALL do" and then carried on about how nasty and horrible religious people are... FAR too many of you "free thinkers" dont think freely enough to realize that there are decent people and horrible people in ANY walk of life and if this life is going to get any better, the decent ones have to stick together regardless of religion or lack there of.

solved? No. But then again, nothing has been "solved" by anything. We have so called improvements but one can point to science and religion. Heck one can point to religion for the development of science on many things. Gregor medel for instance was a monk who studied plants. If he had to scrape and work for a living this may not have occurred and genetics would be left to lamarkian thinking. YIPES! The red cross, hospise, the salvation army, orphanages, homeless shelters etc etc etc are some of the many religious institutions (or least had begun that way). They have made marked improvements in the care of people of the times they were at their height.

You simply ask a begged question.

Don't blame religion! A religion is a strong belief something. Man has other strong beliefs that they fight over. Religious people are usually the ones helping the poor. The free thinkers are the ones that usually spend their time thinking about themselves.

Life moves fast. You better find out why you are here.
Man and Earth are not here by accident. I recommend
the you read books by Lee Strobel.

I'll give you two things.

The end of slavery and the right for women to vote were brought about by so called "religious fanatics."

Sojourner Truth, Susan B. Anthony, Frederick Douglas, Isaac Post, Lucretia Mott, Abraham Lincoln.

Oh those goofy Christians.

Man created Religion as a means to control certain people and it has been working great. You know you would think that even after thousands of years people would choose to think for themselves, but that's too hard for them so instead they would rather have an old 2000 year old book do it for them because that's SO simple and simple minded is as simple minded does.
HEY ZERO NICE TO SEE YOU AGAIN!-that guy is very intelligent

I think most of the answers miss the point. There are certainly religious people who do good but merely looking at one of the lists and realizing that the followers of Jesus think the followers of Muhammad are going to burn and the followers of both think the followers of Gandhi are going to burn makes your point rather than theirs.

To give religions their due, they did give us calendars. This is a true, world wide phenomenon spanning multiple religions.

Other than that. Not so much.

No. i imagine that assumes faith is what facilitates you. "Believing" in God would not help both, till that is a idea that includes trusting and in accordance with Him. once you've good self-worth - large. the concern with self-something regardless of the reality it truly is that it would want to continuously be when compared with others. there is continuously someone more effective perfect than or worse than you, and so it instruments up a pecking order, somewhat of real humanity that calls for esteeming others as major too. And hi...that is cool to love Jesus.

I can't really think of anything significant, except for answers to the questions:
Who am I?
How did I get here?
Where am I going?
Who put me here?
What does He want from me?
Is there life after death?
Why is there death?
What is the meaning of my existence?

Just the small unimportant stuff !
It's not like it answers the big questions - like who will be the next winner on "American Idol?" - so yeah, I see your point.

MLK jr
Gandhi
Jesus
Mohammad
Mother Theresa
These are people ....figureheads of millions, who have use religion to unify people, bring hem together, and strive for human excellence and peace...it is the pride and hubris of smaller people (peaople ho what to argue whether they are righ or not) that diminishes the whole...
A better question to ask is, "why do people fight to BE right rather than fight FOR right.?''
