I got married in October. Am I required to file as married or single since I was only married for 2 1/2 months on '06?

A little more information:

I was a single mom and filing as head of household, single mom will get me more money in my return then if I file as married. Do I have one more year to file that way, head of household unmarried, or do I have to file married?

Your marital status at 11:59:59 pm Dec 31 is your marital status when filing income taxes. I doesn't matter if you were married Jan 1 or Dec 31.

Since you got married in 2006, you have to file as married. You can't file as head of household.
