Muscle spasms can be caused by low potassium in you blood called hypokalemia. Try and eat some potassium rick foods like bananas.

If the pain in you calf occurs when your dorsiflex your foot, which is pointing your toes toward the ground as if to stand on your tip toes, you are said to have a positive Homan's sign. This is a simple test done to see if you have a deep vein thrombosis or blood clot.

You need to see your doctor to rule out a blood clot because it could break loose and cause a MI or CVA (heart attack or stroke) Don't freak out though because some people can have a positive Homan's and not have a blood clot ... it's just best to have it checked out. good luck to you

I get these all the time. REAL painful!!! I've been told that it's due to a lack of water and to drink more water (to avoid getting the cramps)

To get rid of them there is a product called "leg cramps with quinine" by hylands. It's a homeopathic product. I've used it a number of times and it's worked everytime within minutes of taking it. Feel better!

You may need to be checked by your physician. There can be several causes. I was having cramps in one of my calves and the doctor put me on medication. I'm no longer having any problems. This can also be due to arteries trying to clog up and the best thing is checking with a professional.

Schweppes slim line tonic is good (has quinine), try also bananas (u may b short of potassium) or red vine leaf extract tablets (spsd 2 b gd for restless legg syndrome). There is some medication here in the UK I have seen advertised in my husband's BMJ but it's not in there in the current issue.

Seriously, go to health food store & buy a mineral supplement called "Cal/Mags". this is short for calcium & magnesium supplement.
Take 1 per meal. Cal/mags naturally reduce spasms & cramps by relaxing the muscles.

Skip waiting bedrooms. When you have an appointment, check in and then head out for a walk until the particular receptionist phones you.
