The weather extremes are not caused so much global warming as they are by El Nino, according to the National Weather Service. This phenomenon happens every few years.

You have demonstrated that you know pretty much nothing about global warming in general or climate in particular...

Global warming is a global trend of average temperatures through a year... Yes it gets cold in winter (duh!) and it has suddenly been freezing (though last december was one of the warmest ever on record) but that's part of the cycle. The average temperatures across the globe are still increasing proportionally with the CO2 and other gas outputs. Obviously temperature does fluctuate, but the phenomenon of global warming is the overall warming trend from all the averages (taken every day) across the planet.

Oh and there have been some pretty big hurricanes and storms... Katrina was a rare event because of New Orlean's position to sea level (take a natural disasters course and you'll know why this is) and it won't be repeated anytime soon - even with stronger storms. It's a mistake to assume we'll be getting more Katrinas in the future, that was more circumstantial...

China on the other hand suffered one its worst hurricane (typhoons as they're known over there) seasons in over 50 years. With hurricane Saomai for instance they needed to evacuate over a million people, and several hundred were still killed... 57,000 homes were destroyed along with 94,000 acres of land. And that was 1 week after another storm that killed 600+ people! There is a ridiculous concept Americans have where if it doesn't happen to them it obviously mustn't happen to the rest of the world.

Though with American news being what it is, it's not all that surprising you never heard of it.

Just wait until the January Thaw kicks in around next week or so. Temperatures could get into the 50's and higher, maybe 70, 80 would be unusual but not unheard of. Then somehow, "global warming" is raised, this is it, the end of the world, tax the crap out of everyone before it's too late! Kids, don't forget, playing that Wii is killing all the polar bears. A week later, everything returns to normal starting with a snowfall. Uh, wait, that's "climate change" and man is still responsible. This year as in the past, if we get a heatwave, it's attributed to global warming again. Not the idea that it always gets hot in the summer. That's where we get the terms, Dog day afternoon, hot August night, lazy, hazy days of summer. "Hot town, summer in the city, back of my neck getting burnt and pretty."

We may or may not. We don't have enough statistical data to know.
In the 1970's the big rage was "Global Cooling" ... we did such a good job we now have Global Warming. Har har har. But seriously .. check out the link below and click on Global Warming.

If u are able to measure the increase in CO2 it might be possible. Plants are doing a great job ,the environmentalist want u to believe that CO2 has increased 30% . If it truly had there would be people dieing . Study photosynthesis on the net and u can understand.
