We were just there at Christmas - our son got sick there actually. here are some questions:
1. Is it wet or dry>?
2. Does it seem a shortness for breath, or a cold cough (phlegmy?)
3. Is the rib-cage visually being sucked in for breathing?
4. Does it sound like a barking noise?
If it is wet - leave it alone, it means the cough is moving the crap out (could be just the difference in air quality/humidity/allergens in the air - new stuff for baby)
If it is a shortness of breath, consider asthma. It may be an acute case and just need some help to open the passageways in the lungs. It is common after different climates are experienced.
If it sounds like barking - hit the doctors office - it might be croup. usually a good dose of ventolin will help with that.
If it is dry with no shortness of breath - try a cold humidifier - it might do the trick!
Good Luck!

Hi there,
I'm no doctor, but i am a father and like yourselves i'd be concerned too. If you have access to a local health centre? call them as there is useually a person on duty or they'll give you a contact phone number, If, and only if you are pretty sure there's nothing to be too concerned about ? CALPOL for juniors is helpfull for helping the child sleep and comfort through the night, plus it'll also help with any temperature she may have.
BUT most importantly, get the child medical attention as soon as possible, even if you have to call out a G.P.(general practitioner) especially since you've just returned from abroad.
Hope alls well, regards
Caddie

It could be a weather change, but I wouldnt take any chances your child is still young enough to get RSV witch can be really serious. Also the dad with the little boy who had pnomia has a point and a weather change can even bring it on. Crup is dicribed in a baby medical dictionary that the peditrition gave me when I first had my kids as a barking type cough. Its also a night time thing. If that is his syptoms take him into a bathroom close the door and turn the shower on as hot as you can get it and sit in there with him until it lessens. and call th doctor!

Call NHS24
It is better to be on the safe side.
If it is croup then a hot steam enviorment will help to ease the coughing.
Croup has a barking cough and in severe case may need inhalers or steriods, but usually the hot steamy enivorment helps

Go ahead and call your pediatrician. There should be a nurse who is able to call you back and they should be able to let you know if you need to have the doctor see your toddler. For me, my personal experience when my daughter had a cough I took her to see the doctor and they said she had a cold and wouldn't prescribe anything for it. That happened 3 or 4 times. Call the doctor's office and the doc or nurse should let you know what to do. I think that there is some cough medicine you can give your toddler, put on a vaporizer and let him/her get plenty of rest and that should help. Still, a doctor would have to tell you the correct dosage if you are to give any medicine.

Yeas it could be croup, but that would be the least of my worries! Make an appointment with the dr! Its always best to check these things out especially with young children.

I would call the doctor, but if it is croup, put her in a room with lots of steam. you can do that by running a hot bath and stay in there with her. As always make sure she stays away from the hot water.
Call the doctor 1st tho to be sure.

Any time a child that young has that type of symptom it always requires a trip the doctors as soon as possible. All pediatricians will tell you they would rather you err on the side of caution.
Don't wait to see if she starts to appear in distress. Bring her as soon as possible just to be safe. Croupy-ness isn't anything to fool around with.

Yes it could be but it also could be pnuemonia. My son just got over that and that's what he had. But it could be just a change in weather. I would take her to the doctor and get her checked out especially if she is running a fever. I used Triaminc congestion for kids for my 16 month old and it worked really well. But to be safe go to the doc.

My Thoughts are.... there probably isn't anything to worry bout BUT its ALWAYS best to consult a doctor in these matters. It may be just a nuisance cough needing treatment but don't risk it!
