Because it often requires the mindset of a fundamentalist atheist hellbent on destroying christianity and dumb as a brick. People who convince themselves that they are the avatar of logic and obsess so much over it that they've turned reality into a mathematical equation and now live in a fantasy world where everything (that inconveniences the fundy atheist) must fit his outrageous criteria. There is far less evidence that that Macedonian king Alexander the Great lived in the B.C. 300s than there is for the life of Jesus Christ as recorded in the Bible, yet nobody has made www.AlexanderTheNonExistant.org
I love how athiests presume to know exactly how God 'should' be. Perhaps they's also like to tell Hideo Kojima how Solid Snake 'should' be?

Zerocook- I agree with you on the whole playing patty cake with the kids bit but uite simply, one must ignore a great deal of evidence, and treat what evidence is left most unfairly, in order to deny that Jesus existed. Greco-Roman historian s who certainly has no theological axe to grind, indicates that there is more evidence for the existence of Jesus than there is for a large number of famous pagan personages - yet no one would dare to argue their non-existence. Alexander the Great could fit on only a few sheets of paper; yet no one doubts that Alexander existed. Charlesworth has written that "Jesus did exist; and we know more about him than about almost any Palestinian Jew before 70 C.E." [Chars.JesJud, 168-9] Sanders [Sand.HistF, xiv] echoes Grant, saying that "We know a lot about Jesus, vastly more than about John the Baptist, Theudas, Judas the Galilean, or any of the other figures whose names we have from approxim. and yes ZERO, there are such things as fundy atheists, honey.

Er, what's a "fundy" atheist? I think you have yourself an oxymoron there.

Anyhoo, I think atheists think belief in Jesus is crazy because belief in any ethereal, non-corporeal being as being Master of the Universe is illogical. It has no foundation in reason. There is no proof. All faith is this way.

I'm not an atheist. I have faith--not in Jesus, but in something else. But I acknowledge that this is illogical. I also acknowledge that to me, it feels right. And I don't force it on others because that would be really silly.

And please SHOW YOUR SOURCE on that "more evidence of the existence of Jesus than Alexander the Great" statement. NO EVIDENCE exists of Jesus' existence besides the New Testament. The New Testament is entirely made up of manuscripts that are copies. The orinial documents, including the four Gospels, do not exist. They are long, long gone. Alexander the Great's existence is upheld by scholars and scribes of his own time. They even know almost the exact day of his death, which is amazing considering he lived over 2400 years ago. None of this can be said of Jesus. It is practically impossible to say he even existed. It is FAITH to believe that.

I'm afraid you don't know what the hell you are talking about. There is ample historical data proving the existence of Alexander III of Macedon. Much of which is derived from writings and artifacts from the time he was actually alive. The same cannot be said for the character of Jesus. There is not a single word written about Jesus until some 40-80 years after he supposedly died.

It's important for you to know that just because the truth offends your sensibilities or flies in the face of an idea you hold dear, that doesn't make it any less true.

The term "Fundy" (or fundamentalist) is vague. And lots of people apply it to a wide range of people and belief systems. And some equate it with extremism. It's a relative term. I, personally, am not disturbed by people calling me a fundamentalist. But I'm certainly NOT an extremist. I believe God is infinitely wiser than we are, and he has given us his Word to instruct us, not to find ways around not doing the good he teaches. In my view, the Atheists on this forum and those who have extreme and obsessive hatred for other belief systems, are extremists. .

I'm an atheist but I don't consider myself as 'fundy"...not sure if there are any fundy atheists. Most atheists just want to live a normal life without having religion crammed into our everyday life. We don't like it when the "religious right" tries to put christianity into our laws and government. Belief in god is not crazy to me, it just isn't what I want in my life. Some people need religion in their lives and that is fine with me. And as far as Jesus goes...I believe he existed...just don't believe he was the son of god.

A fundy atheist?! Is there such a thing?! Well, if there is...

I guess I could presume that they look at the fundamentals of science then see if they can prove the principals through scientific method. If they can, then they can expound the truth of their findings.

Can the fundy Christian do the same? Can they prove, through scientific method, that god exists?

The idea of Alexander has no political weight today, so it need notbe addressed. Belief in Jesus is somewhat reasonable; their is (a little) evidence outside of the Bible. Belief in Yahweh is demonstrably false, based solely on the incoherence of the Bible itself, but further substantiated by science. Thus, belief that Jesus was "God's" son (or him incarnate) is also false.

Since you said I am as dumb as a brick, is it OK if I just refer to you as some idiot to stupid to study anything but one book.

Hell junior I have over a hundred that say Jim Kirk and the Star Ship Enterprise are out there.

Have a nice day. BTW your attitude is why I seldom think about my being ordained. Entirely too many "Christians" are just like you, pompous and arrogant.

No such thing as a "fundie atheist", honey.

If no one presumes to know anything about God... then... why should anyone give a crap about this thing for which we possess NO definite knowledge?

You're right, we might as well substitute some other silly, vague concept for "God"... it means the exact same thing, apparently.

P.S. I don't have a mathematic equation for art appreciation or playing Patty Cake with my son. Not everything is cold, clinical and calculated. Pull the plank out of your eye and get a clearer view of reality.

I believe he may have existed as a man, not a god or the son of a god.

I dont believe Jesus never existed. I just believe he wasnt the son of God or a prophet. I believe he was a man with schizophrenia or maybe he was planning a takeover. Anywho, what makes you think your religion is above criticism?
