What I do is focus more on spirituality mostly, and try to have gratitude of what I have going for me today. Sometimes when I'm feeling down, I do a little journaling...for ex. write a line of two about a problem/express this emotionally, then immediately follow up w/a positive solution, whether it being a more positive outlook &/or solution. Eventually it all works out this way~normally sooner than later. And accept the things I cannot change and change the things I can. To be honest, I realize that today I have much more going for me than I did in my 20's~those were the "experimental years"~exciting yet painful. As the yrs. go by I think one often forgets how far along they've come in life.....hope this helps!! :-)

I would say that you need to stay active. My grandparents are 92, 90, and 85. Two of them benefit from genetics but the one who is the most active seems happier, more energetic, and more able to deal with life.
Stay active mentally as well, anything other than the TV is probably a good start.
Stay connected with other people. Find others with common interests. Studies have shown that men who retire with nothing to do have very short life expectancies.

Old friends,
Old friends
Sat on their park bench
Like bookends.
A newspaper blown though the grass
Falls on the round toes
Of the high shoes
Of the old friends.
Old friends,
Winter companions,
The old men
Lost in their overcoats,
Waiting for the sunset.
The sounds of the city,
Sifting through trees,
Settle like dust
On the shoulders
Of the old friends.
Can you imagine us
Years from today,
Sharing a park bench quietly?
How terribly strange
To be seventy.
Old friends,
Memory brushes the same years
Silently sharing the same fears

Stop dying your hair
dont wear mod jewellery
dont wear skimpy clothes
wear appropriate makeup
Don't tell people your age
and dont bemoan about getting old
mix with friends your own age rather than hanging around with people much younger than you, they dont need a senior escort
Learn what gracefully means
Once you follow that recipe you are well on the way. See you there!

Don't do drugs. At least not all the time. Don't take things too seriously. But don't fall crazy out of line either. Grace is all about cafefully taking the middle road between being type A and neurotic and just being slack and crazy.

Wear sunscreen when you're out in the sun (Although cloudy days are still bad for your skin), and take proper care of your body. One thing about aging, it's that it doesn't matter quite so much about looks if you're aged gracefully, your spirit and happiness helps you look younger!

your skin may wrinkle but it is only because you have basked in the beautiful sunlight, your legs might get achy but it is only because you have danced under the stars... aging itself is beautiful.. it is the sign of a life well lived... i dont recommend plastic surgery and if you consider it please watch the Hbo documentary of plastic people.. also, dont smoke, and only drink occasionally.. moisturize before you go to bed every night, take care of your teeth, dont dye your hair, get a facial every month... or say to hell with that and enjoy every minute of your life not worrying about appearances but instead find a way to make your lover smile.
