Please disregard anything hossam has to say, he's trying to be funny. Try http://wikipedia.org and search, you may find somthing good there. They weren't really "used" as far as I know, just tested.

Two weapons were dropped on Japan to end WWII. One was a uranium bomb the other plutonium. These were atomic bombs. They split atoms in a process known a fission. No other bombs have been fired in anger by the US or any other country.

A hydrogen bomb is a completely different matter. It uses an atomic bomb to get a process know as fusion started. Hydrogen atoms are compress until a reaction occurs that fuses them into heavier elements releasing huge amounts of energy. Hydrogen bombs have been tested at many points around the globe and by several countries. These weapons have been tested in the atmosphere and underground.

Try a search engine search for "hydrogen bomb test". Thermonuclear is another word you might want to research.

Now if you want to understand how to build them, I don't think a search for that information would be a very good idea.

Hope that helps but I must confess I don't know if I gave you what you were looking for or not.

If you search for the Bikini Atoll, you'll find interesting photos of the tests.

Yes, bikinis were named after this.
