Great question. Interestingly enough prophecy often has an immediate meaning and a future meaning. When John wrote that he was speaking about a church present at that time. It was a timely message for that church. But, as prophecy it also carries a "future" meaning that can have different meanings. It can carry a direct warning to any church throughout time- but it could reference a particular church at a certain time. We can't be sure about what specific church, but we can be sure of the message for churches throughout time.

Most likely it is but there are also churches in persecuted countries that are hot for God. But I don't understand what Jesus meant when He said He would either we are hot or COLD. Why would He love cold Christians but instead spit lukewarm Christians out of the mouth? Anyone care to explain?
This is the final church age as prophesied and it's Laodicean. Just after this age will be the rapture and the gathering of all the saints to Him and judgement at the Bema seat. Yes, we see all the end time signs happening in greater degree and freq like never before and apostasy in the church. The falling away must come first and then the man of sin is revealed, then that Day will come.

Yes... lukewarm thats the description of the laodecian church.. and thats the present status of the church "neither cold or hot". If you can find a church today that is not business in nature that is the true church of God. But taht is impossible to find. Good Luck and keep seeking. For God said, "Seek and you shall find".

There are some striking similarities between the present day Church in the United States, generally speaking, and the Laodicean Church.
But I would say the Church in China is more like the Church of Smyrna.
I don't think you can assign these churches to particular eras or locations. I think though most churches will fall under one of these seven patterns.
