my mother in law and i have always gotten along great. well, she had pawned off all her rings a few months ago and was about to lose them. she called and said that if i would pay to get them out, i could keep 2 of them, one of which she has promised me when she diesanyway. it was a steal, b/c they are worth 5 times more than i was going to pay for them. well, she called her sister and found out that they would give her more $ for the one that she promised to me and wanted to charge me twice as much for it! i have the right to be mad right? i really love that ring, but just the thought that if i don't give her twice as much as she originally wanted, i can't have it and she's going to give it to someone else!

your mother in law must be having financial problems. she probably doesn't want to sell her jewelry, does she? pay her the extra money. she obviously needs it. she isn't a very good person though. guess you figured that one out on your own. i have a feeling, she has already sold them for more.

You're being a little bit selfish. If your mother-in-law is pawning rings, then she obviously isn't exactly financially secure.

Circumstances change and now she's in a position where she might be able to make a little money, perhaps it will prevent her from having to pawn her jewelry in the near future.

I know she made you a promise, but if you're close to her then you should know that she's struggling and obviously needs every cent right now.

Don't put a piece of metal ahead of your relationship.

Tell her that you'll give her as much as she originally asked for and if she felt taking it back and giving it to someone else was something she had to do, then do it.

Just let it go. It's not worth the family drama.

If she was going to give it to you anyways, after she dies, than don't pay for it. Let her sister have it, it may have more sentimental value to her than it would for you.
