In my experience they are allocated a social worker if they need one. Whether they then get any assistance is down to need. No one gets anything from Social Services these days (at least in the UK) unless their needs are critical or substantial (usually critical). It's all about money. Older people are seen as having fewer needs.
Now if Labour had kept some of their old socialist principles things might be a little different. Sadly they ditched them all in order to get elected.
An advocacy service for older people can help anyone not getting what they need. They usually know the system.

it doesnt matter what age you are, or what your disability is ,people need social workers and care managers,to fight for their rights,I know from experience,im a mother of a 22yr old with learning difficulties,if you need any more info please email me,I do know how important it is.to have someone to support you.

I didn't know that they did - I thought old people got loads of help and it's just disabled children that everyone forgot about it!!
