When men say they want a woman who takes care of herself, what do they mean?

It means that they want a woman who doesn't depend on them for anything and can stand on her own two feet. She isn't clingy or overemotional. She might even throw a little attitude his way.

Also a woman who takes care of her body, meaning a healthy diet, exercize, and regular doctor and dentist check-ups. This could be extended to other things like a woman who takes care of her appearence further with clothing, makeup and hair styling.

Also a woman who is relatively self-sufficient with money, a lot of guys worry that women are only into them because of their money, and if a woman is already well-established then they know she is with them for genuine reasons. Most guys don't like gold-diggers, but of course there are exceptions.
