Is it just a phase? Should I stop letting him watch Grey's Anatomy? None of my parenting books have the answers.

Ok... this is definitely not from watching Grey's Anatomy lol. Probably not the best choice of programming for an 8 year old, but not something that would make him threaten your life. I would definitely check out counseling. My fiance used to threaten his mother when he was about that age and he put him in a boys home, which I don't think was the best choice. Your son is obviously mad at you for some reason and he needs someone outside of the home to help him find out what is wrong early on and help him direct that energy some other way and learn to deal with his emotions. Telling your mother you'll kill her in her sleep is Not a phase and if you don't help your child now you'll regret it for the rest of your life that you were not a responsible parent.

um. I'm sixteen. and about 6 months ago I spent some time in a Behavioral Clinic for attempted overdose. don't ask. There was a seven year old boy there who tried to kill his mum. so, um. Yeah, I'd be concerned. It could also be a phase. my little brother, when he was around that age, tried to beat the living hell out of me and my dad. We all know how successful that was. The three of you, I'm assuming that there's a mother involved as well, should go to a family therapist. Being only eight, I wouldn't let them put him on meds. not till he's at least my age. How long has this threatening been going on?

I would be concerned about it. Is he violent? Does he hurt animals? If the answer is yes, you should take him to a doctor about it. I mean, it could very well be a phase but, I personally have never known an eight year old to go through a phase of threatening to kill their parents. Also, I don't think Grey's Anatomy is an eight year old's kind of show. That's more for adults.

If an 8 year old threatens to kill you in your sleep on a regular basis, he should be seeing a psychiatrist, he is deeply troubled. My youngest brother used to say things like that. He dropped out of school after 8th grade, became an alcoholic/drug abuser, and is now a middle-aged homeless drunk. Help him now, don't wait.

Definitely. I don't think that stopping him from watching Grey's Anatomy is going to solve your problem.
Perhaps a good punishment and a lesson on respect for his parents would be a better bet.

Your 8 yearold should not be watching shows like that.He should be in bed.It probably is apassing phase.Parenting books dont have answers because you raise kids by parental instinct.

Ahhh Yah!!!! I would take him to a Doctor - it isn't normal for a child to tell their parent they are going to kill you - in your sleep or awake!!! It's disrespectful and even if he is joking - which I don't think he is or you wouldn't be asking this question he shouldn't be saying things like this to anyone - especially his parent!!! My opinion!! Mother of 3.

get him into counsling before he doews do something . if hes just saying it to keep you from punishing him then i wouldnt be to worried but its best to get him to cousling there may be something that happened that made him this way or it may be just what he sees and hears . counsling now not next month or in a year do it now before the wroung person hears him says it then its worse cause then dps children services etc willstep in so do it on your own and good luck
