It's like this...and I did the same,
When I was a younger guy I'd say and do anything to get what I wanted, I was arrogant, I was immature and I didn't know how to be direct and honest about what I wanted or how I felt. As I got older and more mature (and I'm not super old hehe) I learned that honesty and being direct was the best, I went from arrogant to confident and I didn't beat around the bush and do or say things to "test the waters", I just ask flat out.
Now as for you question...if someone tells you they love you, and you don't know each other that well or it feels phony, then chances are it is phony. If they try to move farther then you want to go, and you have to tell them to stop they are testing the waters. If they make up a totally unbelievable story that leads you to thing things then its for a reason other them you think.
You need to really listen to what is being said and if there are things that make you feel like he isn't being honest then question it further and see where it goes. There are a lot of nice guys out there, and a lot of not so nice ones, so you need to be very alert and watch for the signs...believe me thy are there!

My guy actually asked, which I thought was considerate and rather sweet of him...of course, i realize he's in the minority with that. Don't have any other experiences though, so I can't really say. As far as being truthful goes...I would say that its hard to prove whether or not someone is being truthful. Time is really the best way to build trust between you and him.

one of my guy friends will call me these weird and sometimes mean names and see how I'll react. If I get upset he knows not to go in that direction. really i think he's flirting but he won't say it and he even told me he wanted to see how much he can get away with. So he'll even start making fun of me like my personality and things that I like to see if I'll let him and usually I don't so he stops. So if he's saying anything mean, rude, or joking about things that you may not think are funny then he's probably testing you to see how much you'll put up with. Well Actions are louder than Words. He can he's telling the truth but until you see it in action you may always have your doubts.

If there is reason to doubt his being truthful why go through the stress of trying to force him to prove it? I mean if the relationship is that rocky I would head for the hills and wait for a more trustworthy person to come along.

He will do ANYTHING, and will go as far as you will let him....they really are interested in one thing only! And men very seldom can be truthful, so I don't see how he could prove it.

You don't know if a man is being truthful........only time and his actions will tell. It's up to you to be observation on his actions to make that judgement call.
