He was convicted in 1990 on one relatively minor cocaine possesion charge (misdemeanor) after being indicted on nearly 14 counts of possesion and perjury. He served six months.

He was later plead guilty in 2005 to tax fraud, and during his probation he tested positive for cocaine use. In 2002 cops found his car filled with pot and coke, but he claimed it was stolen. Barry was also robbed by "some men helping him with his groceries" but most people knew he was robbed trying to buy coke.

Barry's problems are a bit of an open secret in DC. The alternative paper Washington City Paper has commented openly on his glassy eyed frequenting of areas with high drug activity.

He is in the hospital currently. His staff denied it at first , which is weird. But then they could not continue to keep it a secret and admitted that he was in the hospital. They will not say why. Could it be more drugs?

No matter what he keeps the votes coming in, go figure.
