If you purchased it from an individual, no.
If you purchased it from a dealer, and you signed the FTC notice that states it was sold AS IS, then no.
If it has a limited warranty, the problem may be covered by the warranty, but you do not have recourse to return the car.
Lemon Laws apply to New cars, and there has to be a history of the exact same problem happening 3 times in a row.
Used cars are AS IS, unless guaranteed by the seller.
If you wrote a check, put a hold on the check until you get the problem resolved.

that depends on what the deal was. if the deal stated the car was fit for use on the road or was reliable then yes.
if the deal said AS IS . and no verbal statements were made to you saying it runs well or it will run for x amount of time then no.
If bought the car from a dealer and the car was certified as it seems yours may have been since you were driving it then you can in most places take it back. They are subject to laws that vary from place to place.
non the less i would attempt to take it back if i thought the cause of the break down was something they would have known was going to happen. then see if something can be worked out.

Lemon laws vary by state, and require the same problem multiple times, so that might not work. Take it back if it was not as is when you bought it. Otherwise, take it to a reputable and cheap mechanic, bc odds are you bought it from a dealer or used car place and they charge boatloads for repairs.

First off let me tell you lemon laws only apply to new cars. It must break down several times and the dealer can't or won't fix it.
Even if sold with no warranty, you may have 72 hours to decide if you want to keep it or not. Check your sales contract. Press the dealer you bought it from, if he wants more customers, he will fix it to your satisfaction. Also check out this link for more info:

if it bought it "as is" then there's nothing you can do about it. my husband and I just went throught this in june. the best you can do is call and see if they'll do anything for you, like take it back and use it as trade in on another car. i would file a complaint with the attorney general as well. if you bought it BRAND NEW, there is a lemon law and they have to replace the car or give you your money back

Depends on if you have a warrinty or not. It also depends on what happened to the car, because if it was a big mechanical problem then there is a law called the lemon law.. you should look it up, maybe you could find the answers that you are looking for.

Yes, there is a "Lemon Law". You can return almost any purchase within three days.
If you bought it from a individual it may be more difficult, make sure you document EVERY attempt to get your money back, just in case you have to take them to small claims court.

Yes and they should fix it for free. If not then I would seek a lawyer about that. They are supposed to give a guarantee on your car.

That stinks that it broke down! Yes, you can bring it back if it says so on your warranty.
