I was wondering what color eyes do the parents of violet eyed children tend to have? Such as... does one parent have brown and the other blue? Or both blue or one green and one blue? etc.. Wondering if there are any violet eyed people out there with some interesting answers!:)

Yes, there are folks out there that have purple tone iris's. Exa. is Liz Taylor. Why am I getting such stupid answers to a basic question? LOL

Eye color is a complicated genetic formula.
Let's see.....My father had blue eyes. My mother's eyes are so dark brown they are almost black.
My sister has gray eyes. I have blue-green eyes.
Our maternal grandmother had green eyes.
Our maternal grandfather was part Native American and had very dark brown eyes.
Our paternal grandparents had blue eyes.
Violet eyes like Elizabeth Taylor's are very rare, and a combination of many genetic factors coming together.
ADDED DETAILS:
Check out this eye color predection chart!

Here's a paragraph from that site:
In humans three genes involved in eye color are known. They explain typical patterns of inheritance of brown, green, and blue eye colors. However, they don't explain everything. Grey eye color, Hazel eye color, and multiple shades of blue, brown, green, and grey are not explained. The molecular basis of these genes is not known. What proteins they produce and how these proteins produce eye color is not known. Eye color at birth is often blue, and later turns to a darker color. Why eye color can change over time is not known. An additional gene for green is also postulated, and there are reports of blue eyed parents producing brown eyed children (which the three known genes can't easily explain [mutations, modifier genes that supress brown, and additional brown genes are all potential explanations]).
You'd have to take an upper division class in genetics and know the eye colors of "grands" going back to the "great grands" to even make an accurate guesstimate!

I think both parents could have brown eyes - they just have to carry a gene that would result in violet eyes when combined with the gene the other parent contributes.
I would think the violet eyes gene is extremely receissive. Even more than the green eyes gene.

Scientifically there is brown and blue. Green is brown. So violet are contact lenses... There are some very dark Brown Eyes that have a violet cast especially where the eye's iris meet the scalera. The whites of the eyes have a bluish cast and that would put a violet look to that part of the brown eyes....

Violet eyes are a trait that some Irish have mostly. My friend had violet eyes but her parents were brown.
