The braces usually hurt the most in the first month you are wearing them. The pain WILL subside after a couple of weeks. In fact believe it or not, one day you will actually forget you are wearing them.
In the mean time, rinse your mouth with warm salt water, use plenty of dental wax or dental silicone (Ortho-Sil), eat very soft foods that are not hard to chew, take some pain killer if you can (acetominophen or ibuprofen), and try to relax.

I have had braces since about September 2005, so I know what you are going through.
It does hurt and it hurts everytime you get them tightened, it is something you just have to get used to and is worth the pain because of the final look.
The pain should calm down about 2-4 days after the installment.
The best thing to do is to sleep or take pain killers.

I have never had braces, so I don't really understand what you are dealing with. But when I have tooth pain, I put an aspirin between my gums and my cheek and let id dissolve. This help tremendously. Hope that helps. Good luck.

I feel your pain, I got mine in a two days ago. Have no fear, take some tylenol or advil. The otrtho should have prescribed you some medicine for your pain. Just eat really soft foods and take your medicine as prescribed. It should be okay within a week or so. Dont worry you will be okay.

It used to take a week or so then it goes away...what the killer was for me is the adjustments every month- tightening the wires to pull the teeth together...urgh!

Take tylenol, asprin, whatever you use regularly. It will hurt until you get used to them and then it will start over again every time you get them tightened. Make sure you get wax for those pokey wires.
