I've had a couple of religious people knock on my door and threaten my life and my afterlife in front of their children when I told them I was an atheist, then stood on my lawn continuing to do it after I closed the door, to the point I had to call the cops.

I've also had a gun held to my face and the holder demanded to know if I believed in God now. I corrected his aim and told him I didn't believe in any god so weak as to be contained in a small lump of copper and lead. Hey, his aim wouldn't have killed me, it'd have left me with months of facial and dental reconstructive surgery -- I'd rather have died than gone through that. What would you have done?

Yes it does. Religion, even a false one, has a place in modern society as a glue to hold people and communities together. Simple Social Groups tied to national origins or love of sports are too narrow to bring diverse people together with real meaning. It is better if the glue were good glue and the religion is not based on money/power, for then the community is better served. We have seen what faith in free markets has wrought. We have seen what faith in military power can bring. We have seen how belief in pharmaceuticals alone can cause more suffering than solace (pain killers and mood elevating drugs that kill and bring on suicidal thoughts). Religion and the belief in a life after this life, brings joy and purpose to the industrious person.

It was involved and still is involved in wondering if I'll ever hug a few people again. Not really harmful, but painful none the less. I've cried for hours on end about that one.
Other than that it has not harmed me very much at all.I don't really mind what other people believe, and if appear at my door I can just say ,"I am frying something in the kitchen,my five year old brother shouldn't be near it alone. So sorry.Thank you for the pamphlets, perhaps I will read them later." With that they have left me alone.

I have been in many churches (denominations) that say they are christian but when you really start to look at what their doctrine says and what the Bible says, they lie. They don't believe the Bible as it is written. I have found a small group of churches that teach the truth and say we should live like the Bible says so. They have many personal testimonies as to how their lives have changed for the better. I was in my 30's when I found this. The worst thing most religions do is lie. They twist the scripture to fit the way they want to live.

I do not like religion. It has not harmed me personally though.I got baptized without my permission, but I do not hold it against anyone. I got baptized again later. And that was my choice. I believe in the Bible, and I have a personal relationship with God. I belong to a non-denominational Christians church where they lead people to a life changing connection with Jesus Christ.

Well, my mom was a church secretary for 20 years. The kids that went to my church and my school loved harrassing me about that. I was literally picked on from first grade until I graduated by my church-going peers, who made sure everyone else in my grade that didn't go to my church knew my mom worked for God. That was real easy to grow up with. I also watched an awful lot of people in the congregation treat my mother with complete and total disrespect, looking at her as an employee rather than a peer.

When I first started my journey, I went to a non-denominational church,The Potters House to be exact, and for whatever reason I never felt comfortable and my spirit did not agree with the church teachings. I quit going but continued to read the bible and I prayed and asked for the spirit of truth. Basically I asked God to be my teacher and sure enough I recieved. So I guess my harmful experience was false doctrine. That's sad for new christians as myself to be led astray. I was desperate for something to fill the emptiness inside me that drugs, sex, drugs, and more sex was not satisfying. I was in need of deep love and I have found it in Christ.

I have had both mormons and Jehovah's witnesses tell me that I was not going to be saved because i was the wrong religion and I had a Christian tell me that I was going to hell and roast in the eternal fires.

I do NOT need to hear a comment like that from a two-bit creep in a three-piece suit!

Basically confused me about th meaning of life and death. I grew up and realized that there was no Santa, Tooth Fairy or Jesus. Now I have no clue what happens after death or anything. Growing up without worrying about it saves the worrying for now. One thing I know for sure, I won't be going to heaven or hell, because they don't exist, there is no proof, there never has been proof. I would love to see someone argue the Noah's Ark story though, because ignorance is entertaining.

Nothing. I'm not harmed (offended but not harmed) by the threats of the Christians.
