I was in an incident, where one person died immediately and many others injured. I had to deal with all the casualties alone being the only medically trained person, now i am having nightmares, trouble sleeping and feel tearfull most the time. I have blocked it out for so long but it's just starting to get to me, what should i do?

Hi, it sounds like you have PTSD because the symptoms you describe are part of PTSD. More importantly you experienced a traumatic event.

Some medications can help the symptoms of PTSD like anxiety medicines, but the REAL treatment has to be therapy. In therapy, you have to work through the trauma and as you do the symptoms will disappear.

I would take a week or two off work and talk about what happened with a councillor, a psychologist or a religious leader (like a priest or rabbi). Obviously it has affected you at least a little and it would be better to have this investigated before the feelings become very strong.

You could have PTSD. Our bodies have a weird way of dealing with things and just because you have stuffed your feelings away doesn't mean they can't come out later. I would definitely seek assistance by contacting your PCP or a counselor who specializes in PTSD. It is possible that if you don't seek assistance, your feelings and physical symptoms could become worse.

It sounds like you might have ptsd. The best thing that you can do is go and talk to a counselor about what happened. They can give you ways to deal with your feelings, and it might help to talk to someone about what happened who isn't involved in anyway. I hope you can get the help you need.....Good luck.

Hi there, you have my sympathy, PTSD can affect anyone, I suffered post traumatic stress disorder after I was involved in an accident where I broke my back. It was not a nice experience and was glad to be able to talk with someone who understood what was happening and was able to offer help and through time with counselling, I was cured!
Contact your doctor who will refer you to someone who can help.
Good Luck

Yes, most definitely by the sound of it. you must request a referral for therapy, preferably a therapist trained in or specialising in " critical incident de-briefing "
Yyour g.p. should be able to arrange this for you, or consult privately. a.s.a.p.
