are cameras allowed to be brought to the GM AutoShow in Detroit?

Yes. I have even seen some people bring video cameras.

I took my camera to the NY Auto show last year - no problem.

I don't know, usually they don't allow camera's for non-media people at events like trade shows. You could always call or go online at the venue's website.
