I have been to an eye doctor and she could not find any scratches. She gave me Patanol drops to put in my eye for about a week. It relieved the discomfort only temporarily. I do tend to have dry eyes (especially now in the winter) but my right eye has never acted up like this before, and my left never bothers me in this fashion. It is very frustrating, does anyone have some advice? (I just got contacts too, but the burning is the same, with or without them. They do not make it worse.)

See and Optomologist and not and optomotrist. My daughter has and Optomologist for her eye appointments, they can look into your eye and diagnose. Optomotrist just check the actual vision and not conditions or diesease with the eye. Or further, go see a specialitist and have and MRI or Cat Scan done there may be underlying conditions causing this. You could have a serious infections, symptoms present themselves as warning signals, I would not take this lightly. Not put fear but sometimes that could be symtoms of cancer in eye, MY father had it as a child and survied so I wouldn't worry so much about survival rate but I would worry about having yourself cleared of that?
