If you watch the wolf, the eat the meat and the bones of any creature they catch. Its a survival mode from way long ago. All dogs evolved from the wolf so now our modern dogs still have that link to their past. They eat those bones to survive.

They are trying to get to the middle of the bone which contains the bone marrow. Bone marrow is quite tasty and is often used in soups for flavoring. Also bone marrow is full of nutrients that are good for dogs and the chewing is good for the dog's teeth.

Hope this helps you out.

Dogs will eat practically anything that is given to them. If they're eating bones, which they should not be, it's because they are being given to them. If it's a wolf or a stray, it's for survival.

It gives them something to chew on, sharpens their teeth, and helps their teeth from falling out. And the bone marrow inside is edible for them to eat.

they dont eat it. they chew it. it helps relieve their teeth and gives them something to do. plus the meat that was on it before can usually be smelled on the bone so that attracts the dogs.

ANY CRITTER WITH EYE TEETH THAT INCLUDES US LIKE TO CHEW ON A BONE ONCE IN A WHILE. WHEN US HUMANS ARE BORN OFTEN WE ARE GIVEN A TEETHING RING. IT STRENGTHENS AND KEEPS THE TEETH CLEAN AND POSSIBLY THERE IS A FLAVOR TOO. WE CONTINUE TODAY TO CHEW GUM WHICH IS SIMILAR. ALSO IT MAKES THE SALIVA IN THE MOUTH BUILD UP WHICH IS HELPFUL IN DIGESTION AND ALL AROUND ENJOYMENT.
