get him a titanium or platinum band. gold is a soft metal and will get scratched up very easily. i got a platinum band because i work with alot of chemicals. my husband got titanium because he works on houses. they are both good choices.

Tungsten Carbide ring is stronger than titanium. It is actually made out of drill bits. They can be more expensive than a titanium ring, but harder yet. They don't scratch and if your fiance gets his ring stuck or something falls on his hand "they" can shatter the ring instead of cutting the ring off. Most jewelry stores have them. I went to Corey's Jewel Box and got my fiance's ring for 70% off. My fiance is in construction. I have talked to many other men who love them.
There is one big issue with the ring...it isn't sizeable. If his ring finger grows in a year or gets smaller etc..

Just get him a traditional yellow gold band. Lots of guys in the trades don't wear their rings at work because of the mess, chemicals, or danger to themselves if they hook a ring on something. We had a friend lose his finger because of this.
He can wear it weekends, special occasions, etc. I know it doesn't feel right, and you may want him to wear it all the time - I know I wanted my husband to - but sometimes you just have to go with the circumstances.

my husband was in the same situation, and didn't want a lot of diamonds or whatever anyway. not his thing. so i would say to get a nice heavy gold band, with the comfort fit, where the ends are rounded to not cut into the skin and etc. in white or yellow gold, or a combination of both. or if he is really hard on his hands, maybe a titanium or steel band? they are getting more and more popular and look a lot like platinum.

My friend can't wear his ring at work either, so everyday, he takes it off before he starts and uses a safety pin to pin it into his pocket. He hasn't lost it yet and the ring is still in perfect shape. Hope this helps. It's a good solution if your guy can't wear a chain either.

Get him a really nice strong gold chain. When he's at work he can put his ring on the chain and tuck it under his shirt. That's what I would do. Then get him whatever kind of ring he wants.

I bought my husband a nice small ring to wear on a necklace (chain). Has worked great for many years now.

Try a titanium ring. They're much harder and stronger than gold and will resist scuffs and dings.

Most men in his line of work do not wear their wedding bands to work. It's not because they don't love you, but you can very easliy lose a finger by getting your wedding band stuck in a piece of machinery.

My BF married a man who is an engineer, he got a plain band for everyday wear, but he also got a fancier band to wear for special occasions. Maybe this would work for you?
