1st- If your cat has been an indoor cat all it's life it, unfortunately may not be able to navigate back itself back home, as it has never been taught the skills it needs for the outdoors.
2nd- If your cat is an indoor/outdoor cat, it has a much greater chance of finding its way home.
3rd- I STRONGLY recommend calling (and visiting) all animal shelters/humane societies in your county and surrounding counties DAILY(!). Give each of them the cats name, detailed description, and your most recent photo of your cat so that if it is found and brought in they will be able to contact you. Many animal shelters give owners a couple days to claim their animal, but if they have no way to contact you, that does you no good. Otherwise if it is healthy and has a good temperament it then belongs to the shelter and is available for adoption, if not, it can be euthanized (sorry, but it's the truth.)
4th- Depending on where you live... I live in Wisconsin and it's below freezing, so if I couldn't find my cat that day, I would put an add in local papers and put up flyers as well.
I will pray that your cat is ok and that you will be reunited. Have faith! :)

It is possible however 15-20 miles is a long way. My neighbor gave his Cat away and it kept coming back. I really don't know how far away the new owner lived? Every now and then you hear about an animal going a long distance to get back home. There is hope..Good Luck

Chances are pretty good. Especially if the cat was not put into something he could not see out of such as a box. Cats have wonderful senses of direction and can usually find their way home from almost anywhere. I would keep calling animal control though to be sure he doesn't get picked up. And report the person who did it! Hopefully he makes it home safe and sound very soon!!

If it makes you feel better my sister took a cat home from her work and got him fixed and was keeping him in until he healed and she could find a home for him. The cat got out and went back to where she worked- which was 5 miles away. So she took him home again. So cats do come back. If you want a cat he needs a home.

Hmm.. my neighbor has the same problem. Well, I don't know if she has a problem with it specifically. My suggestion to your predicament I guess would be to either uninstall the cat flap, or keep it closed. Put a collar and bell on your cat. I can't really say too much about your cat bringing other cats home; don't know how to ground a cat for bringing uninvited friends over. It's way easier doing that with people you know?

your cat should be able to find his way home, I'd go back to where he was dropped off every day to look for him, buy a humane trap(the ones used for raccons) and put some cat food in there, he should go in for the food and get caught. remember there have been cats who have crossed thousands of miles to find owners and have crossed thousands of miles to find owners who moved and had to leave their cat behind, they crossed many miles to find owners in places they've never been to. don't give up, people have found their missing cats 6 months after they dissapeared don't give up hope, I've lost pets before and I think that unless I have some valid proof my cats dead(body etc.) then he could still be alive. I hope you find your cat and please report that person to the police, they'll help.

it depends. do you let the cat out enough that it can go out and always come back or do u keep it inside the whole time. chnaces are that if it was inside its whole life then it wont know what the house outside looks like and it wont come back. im sorry for the bad news but its the truth. however i would do something about the person who dropped off the cat.

I saw a cat documentary where a cat traveled across America to get back home, so yeah, cats can find their way home.

He'll come home to you if he can. Usually they try. You could put posters up between where he was dropped off and where you live in case someone finds him.
