Karyotyping is chromosomal analysis to look for abnormalities in chromosomes that could cause disease or malformation. I remember doing karyotyping in genetics lab by lining up pictures of chromosomes by size, from largest to smallest.

You can select one of the following projects:
If you want to do the work on plants then select a family and find out the differences and number of chromosomes within the family.
You could also treat the plants with certain chemicals and then see if this has any effect on the chromosomes.
You can do this type of work on animals as well.
In case of humans, select a population with certain traits and see if there is any peculiarity with respect to karyotype.
You can do the blood culture and treat the culture with some carcinogen and find the difference.
For methodology several books are available. You can see “Handling of chromosomes” by Darlington
