Try Google or whitepages.com if you know the approx. state he might be living in.
whitepages.com also has paid sources you can check if you don't find him in the regular search engines.
By the way, how old is the child now?

if he's still in the states, try zabasearch. if he's in france, i'm not sure what you'd do. perhaps if you know someone from france, ask if they could try to track him down for you.
