Nope.

No, that would be a logical fallacy. If A (God) does B (Working in mysterious ways) and C (government) also does B, it does not mean that C is the same as A.

No. God does work in ways that seem mysterious to us, but the government is not God. The bible says that God allows the authorities in the government to be established.

Hmmm. Lemme see. The reasoning is:
God works in mysterious ways.
The government works in mysterious ways.
Therefore the government is god.

The reason sounds very similar to:
The virgin Mary was a virgin
I am a virgin.
Therefore I am the virgin Mary.

Could there be a slip in logic here? ;)

HA!

But I find nothing mysterious about the government. They take your money and use it for good or evil - depending on who is in office at the time.

After a lot of thought I have to say yes.

Getting through a tax return is an act of God. When you finish and find out that you are actually getting money back, you say "Thank God" If you aren't getting money back and owe it you say "Jesus Christ". If the return check arrives quickly you feel like you are in heaven. If it gets delayed you wonder what in heavens name has happened to that check. And if you get audited after falsifying a claim you feel like you are in Hell.

Sounds right to me
