We had a basic reproduction class in 5th grade, another, slightly more in depth, one in 6th grade, and Health class was mandatory our Freshman year, so it's hard for me sometimes to understand how people can be so clueless. (My mom also said she'd smack herself if she had children as ignorant as some of the questions I tell her about here.)
I know in some areas people still think that sex is just terrible so we should avoid talking about it at all costs, but then you end up with kids who know nothing about how to protect themselves or even how their bodies work. I think sex ed is important in schools for this reason. Until the government (state or higher) makes it mandatory in ALL schools, the best way to ensure that our kids get a good education regarding sex is for the parents to make a point to teach them, especially if the school won't (which is funny because the schools teach it because the parents don't). Not all parents will take that step, but if more made the effort, we might have fewer clueless teen parents and fewer kids with STD's.

Sex education starts at home and I do believe that the school is right to share in the responsibility. get involved with what they are teaching and see where they need to fill in the gaps. But really, whatever is missing should be taught at home.

Children should receive sex education from experts -- their parents. The schools and government have no business teaching our children in this area.

Talk to your kids plain and simple. Let them ask you question and answer then as openly and honestly as you can.Always tell the truth about sex babys and STDs.

Be parents and tell your kids what is going on out there. It is easy, just take everything you did and subtract 3 years...that's when they are doing it now.
