Yes, but is not because of the birth control issue,,, is more than that. Have you notice that the majority of the Catholics are from poor countries, like Mexico, Latin America, etc. And they were poor when they became converted by the Catholic Church many many centuries ago and today they are still poor. Ain't that a way the Church make their money from their ignorants and become what the Church is the richest organization in the world. I just wonder!!! Ignorance is the way the Catholic Church, Communist governments and Dictatorship government keep control of you for their own purpose.

Hello, where have you been all this time? Up to about the 1950's it had been part of Protestantism's boast that economic prosperity is the lot of Protestant countries while poverty is the price for Catholicism. In the 70's when the world's economic picture changed, the claim had been indecently abandoned as more and more traditionally Catholic countries gained First World status. Today, such traditionally Catholic countries as Portugal, Spain, France, Italy, Luxembourg, Liechtenstein Ireland, and Austria are now counted among the richest in the world. In fact, Luxembourgh or Liechtenstein are now invariably considered the richest. Of course it would be argued that these countries are secular states, but so are the so-called richest Protestant countries. Are you claiming Germany, Holland, Great Britain and the Scandinavian countries are Protestant countries? Are you claiming the United States of America is Protestant because these are the rich countries Protestant apologists loved to hold up before as proofs the Protestant way of life ensures economic prosperity. For sure, the atheists at the sidelines would howl in protest. Now here comes Miss Beautiful resurrecting the old claim, although now she is playing safe by zeroing in on a poor Catholic country in the Western Hemisphere. Congratulations, at least you've improved in your tactics. But is the Catholicity of Haiti the real scourge behind its appalling state of poverty? I hope Miss Beautiful you have done your research into the history of this poor country. I am not a Haiti expert but I am aware of basic historical developments this country had had to endure these past three hundred years or so. I am aware of the stultifying result of decades of voodoo rule in this erstwhile French colony. Now you're targeting Catholicism's anti-condom stance as the root of rampant HIV infection in the island. I am from a predominantly Catholic country that is economically considered part of the Third World, and yes, the Catholic church here preaches against premarital sex and the use of contraceptives, and that includes the condom. And yet, we have an HIV infection rate way below condom-using countries. Thailand is a non-Catholic country and home of the famous Condom King, Mechai Viravaidya, yet this country's HIV infection rate is astronomically higher than ours. Obviously, there must be another explanation. Obviously, condom use is not the answer and obviously, your religious bias needs reappraisal if only to rectify your urge to generalize and simplify important life issues.

There are many Catholics who use birth control. I was raised in a Catholic house and many Catholics I know use birth control to avoid getting pregnant. This is a myth that the Hispanics have too many children is their religion. Sometimes is because the man feels that a condom makes him less of a man or if a woman uses birth control then she is a whore. It has nothing to do with religion but with the way some men feel.

It is 'society' that causes extreme poverty, not the Catholic or any other church/religion. And the Catholic church does give both food and clothes and also offers help in many other areas of life ... FOR FREE. Even the St. Vincent dePaul stores sell stuff only to raise money to give to the poor ... and they sell it at low prices so more people can get the things they need. Yes, I am a Catholic ... but have you ever 'heard' a Catholic force someone to 'listen to a religious speech or propaganda' before you can have your 'free supper' or go to bed on a mat on the floor? NO, because we DON'T DO THAT. That's why you may 'think' you 'know' what Catholic beliefs are ... but you DON'T KNOW THE WHOLE STORY. Too bad, because we choose to follow Jesus teaching 'Don't let your left hand know what your right hand is doing' in relation to giving charity, you don't have a clue HOW MUCH MONEY/TIME the Catholic Church actually gives ... but we'll still give you as much as we can, and pray for you behind your back ... and you can 'go on' believing LIES if you want to. That is UP TO YOU.

I'm having a hard time understanding, quote "... that the people who have had them cannot afford to offer care for 18 years...".
So if I go screw around without birth control (my choice) and a woman gets pregnant, somehow this is the fault of the Catholic Church? I'm sorry, but that is incorrect. You are responsible for your own actions, no matter what!!!
If you are poor and have 10 kids, you can put them up for adoption, educate yourself and get a job that pays more money or do ANYTHING that will help YOURSELF, but quit trying to blame someone else for your own problems. It's a waste of energy.

well first of all that's just their beliefs. the catholic church has no control over who does or doesn't follow those beliefs. so no they aren't. the people who choose to follow that belief are to blame. how about looking at our government? they have billions of dollars to pay for a war and set up large bases with fast food places etc on them in another country but they can't feed the starving or house the homeless.

There are other religions with the same scandals going on within. There are other religions that don't agree with birth control. What about the Mormons and Souther Baptists? We are all God's children no matter what religion. You sound like a very hostile, miserable woman determined to put down Latinos so you take it out on Yahoo. You sound like a skin head. I'm sorry to tell you this but the world was not made just for blonde haired, blue eyed Anglos. And the U.S. is becoming more and more a country of mixed breeds, religions, and races. You should take a deep, deep breath and let go of all of your fears about this.

Perhaps the Catholic church would like to be the majority of the world's population as the hispanics would like to be the majority in the US. It seems like the same concept to me. The poverty is left for all of us to deal with. Now that I think about it, the hispanic invasion might be somewhat due to the Catholic church wanting to control the US. Especially since they think we should welcome all of them and provide for them. This certainly is causing a rise in poverty in the US. For citizens as well as illegals. It's just that the illegals get more help and we just have to deal with it. For now.

Catholic church allows abstinence and Naturla family planning (both forms of birth control) As a 32 year old woman without children, I use the Nuva ring, and still belong to the catholic church, as many others do. Besides, the church has all knids of charities that combat poverty
