I want to use an Inverter duty motor for an application. And I want to buy Marathon electric Y551, but since there are a lot of choices I do not know if this manufacturer is good or not. Can you recommend? and provide a list of best manufacturers, from 1 to 10, if possible. Thanks a lot.

There are literally thousands of manufacturers for smaller induction motors - those that run strictly on an AC signal, and those that are capable of the added hardships associated with inverter duty.

As your power and/or torque requirements start to creep higher, the number of manufacturers becomes less, until you get to the very large industrial machines (several thousand horsepower and/or several hundred thousand pound-feet of torque) ... by then, the number of competitors has dropped to a handful when looking at the WORLDWIDE picture.

For the machine you're investigating (Marathon's Y551 frame lists as 4 pole, 2 HP, 1750 RPM at either 230 or 460 volts TENV design), almost all makers are pretty much equivalent. The motor won't be the problem ... what may be more of an issue is how 'clean' the signal is coming from the variable frequency drive that provides power.

Alternative suppliers would be GE, Baldor, Reliance, Westinghouse, Ideal Electric, Toshiba, Hitachi, Siemens, AEG, WEG, and almost any small motors distributor you can find in the local yellow pages.

Reliance, GE, Baldor, Westinghouse, are all good motors. The Marathon Y551, 2 HP, 3ph, 230/460VAC motor is designed for inverter duty. Price should be around $350. You should get good service from it.
