Ok. Here's an idea. Works REAL well if you have someone at your congregation who is willing to DONATE say 50 to 75 pounds of hamburger meat. Also, works better if you have a specific program or worthy use for the funds you will earn. The more you publicize this the more meat you will need, though.
Let your congregation and anyone else you desire know that your youth group has a service program that needs funding and that your youth group will sponsor a hamburger cookout for all those who are interested in being of service. Each youth will be responsible for bringing say two 2 liter bottles of a soft drink, and a bag of chips. If you can't get the buns donated just divide up how many buns will be needed between each youth and buy them as a group. This will cost each youth group member probably 10 bucks or so. Also, with this ten dollars purchase large buckets of lemonade mix for those who don't like soft drinks. If you want you can just serve lemonade and that will make it even less expensive. Buy the big industrial size jars lemonade, mustard, mayonnaise, and pickles. Tomatoes and lettuce if you would like.
Now, get some adult volunteers to help you get together some propane grills to use for cooking. Also, have the adults supervise the cooking but you do it.
Pick a good time say right after church so you'll have alot of people already present. Promote it like this. The Such And Such Church Youth Group will be having a FREE hamburger cookout for all those who would like to attend. Then tell them that any donations would be greatly appreciated. Then go into detail as to how you plan to use any donations. Then at the front of the line as people go through to get their food have a well placed bucket that says "Donations for (put your service project name here). Have a couple of cute GIRLS sitting next to the donation bucket. (Trust me. As a father of two girls I know how hard it is to look a teenage girl in the eye and say "nope not interested in helping out but gimme a burger anyway.") The teenage girls will ask each person "Would you like to help our youth group be of service to our Lord?" Hey, I'm puttin my money in the bucket already.
Now, you all have to work hard. You need to have people crawling all over everybody asking things like, "Can I get you another glass of lemonade? Or, Can I take you plate if you are through. Have several kids who monitor how many burgers are needed as they are used. Have some cooking, some serving, some keeping the serving table full. When it's all done everybody stays and cleans up.
This doesn't have to be just hamburgers. Will work for things like spaghetti or even hotdogs. There ya go.

I am not sure about where you live but I know here a lot of restaurants have fund raiser nights where so much of the profit made between certain hours are given to your organization. Also a carnival is always a good way to make some money, a dance or themed social is another good way. If you do a dance or social, make sure you have a good PR person, and advertise. A good tool is to let people know this will be a safe place for their families to be, no drinking, drugs, or violence. Good luck to you, I hope you find something that works. Bless you.

My school has done a lot of sports events. Have the football, baseball, basketball and any other teams willing to help play the staff. Charge a fee for admission and a player fee see if local businesses will donate snacks and beverages. You'd be surprised to see how much you can get.

People can donate old stuff and you can have a garage sale, used book sale, or you can have a bake sale. Have a dinner and sell tickets for it (like $5 a piece). Choose a dinner that can be mass produced and is fairly cheap; spaghetti or barbeque.

Is there a local band that could play a concert?
Bake sale outside of church after every mass?
Custom printed t-shirts with your youth group name on them?
Or the church's?
Pins, hats, canvas bags with the church logo? Old ladies need bags for their knitting, and what better to have on your bag than your church?
Pancake breakfast?
Chili dinner?
