Three guys enter a motel and rent a room...?

Question

The owner charge them $30 and show them to their room. After some time, the owner decides that $30 was too much so he gives the luggage boy 5$ to return to the men. On it's way, the boy figures that $5 is hard to split in three so he keeps $2 and give each man $1. So... if the men originally paid $30, $10 ea and got back $1, that means that they paid $27. Add to this the $2 that the boy kept and now we have a sum of $29... Where is the missing $ ???

Well, a tricky one.
They paid $10, the owner return $5; so, they really paid $25. The boy should return $1.67 to each (3 x 1.67 = 5 aprox). But he is returning only 1 to each boy. There are 3 x 0.67 = 2 still with the boy. This is on a view.

On other view they have paid $10 - $1 each and lets supose that they have not any more money, then the boy returns $1 and they have $3 among them, the boy has $2 and the owner $25.

The trick is that you can't mix what you have with what you had (past). Cannot mix 2 views. Yes, the guys paid $9 each but these are already in the owner pockets, you can't multiply 9 x 3 on the guys side, because that money is on the owner + boy side and the other 3 on the guys...

Yes, tricky to explain too. Imagine if it were $1 million instead of $1 !!!

The wording is so tricky that it confuses you...
The trick is in the fact that the guys got $3 back, one dollar each and the clerk kept $2. The room was $25 right?

3+2+25= 30 There is your $30

It was the dividing up of the 5 $1 bills that throws you off, as it was up to them how it was going to be divided up.... There are no cents involved here, just dollars, no one made change for a dollar.

Its the division of the money back to the guy thats confuses you, the wording would make you think they still had the 9 dollars each but that is wrong they only have 3 dollar each with is three buck and the other 2 to equal 5 dollars back is in the bell hops pocket

the adult men paid 10 funds each and each and every. then the chief gave the bell hop 5 funds to refund them, bringing the room complete all the way down to twenty-5 funds. the bell hop took 2 funds for himself, which means that really the room and tip fee the adult men 27 funds, and gave the perfect 3 to the adult men. so each and each and every paid 10 funds with a a million dollar refund for each. the bell hop really has not something to do with this. so each and each and every paid 10, then were given a million decrease back so all of them paid 9 and had a three dollar refund. basically forget with reference to the bell boy hes basically interior the riddle to confuse you.
