usually big dogs sleep about 5-6 hours in the night + some hours in the day. Smaller dogs sleep more. My lil dog (shih-tzu) sleeps about 6-7 hours in the night + about 3 hours or more in the day. also, it depends from the dog's personality and where he lives. If he is at home a lot, he will sleep almost all this time. Also, you have to now, that a dog goes to sleep at night when his/hers family are sleeping, or there's no jumping, walking, or when he is bored, etc.

dogs in the wild can sleep 18 hours a day, so even though your dog is a house dog, the instinct is to sleep lots. I think 15 hours a day is okay, usually up and down.

The life of a dog is mostly sleep. They do require lots of sleep per day.

puppies get 18-20 hours of sleep a day, and i believe dogs get anywhere between 15-18 hours of sleep.
