Made out of basically any material thats not too light. (You can even make it out of cheap plastic bottles if you're desperate for an emergency pick) Can't be too light or flimsy or it can't strike the strings hard enough (Such as paper). But otherwise you can get it made out of most materials right down to bones and wood.
